Exact-GPS
It's exciting to see a project "come to life" so to speak. Working with the business subject matter experts of the non-profit organization Share and Care House (ShareAndCareHouse.com), we created the Exact-GPS (Guardian Payee Solution) project from the beginning stages of discovery, requirements gathering, analysis, through the initial database design, and the development of the request for proposal (RFP) for the development and implementation portion of the project. Working with Olympic Consulting Group (www.ocgworld.com), the production design, development, and implementation contractor on the project, my recent project contribution includes acceptance testing, user training, and development of training materials. In collaboration with Share and Care House and Olympic Consulting Group, Exact-GPS is now in production. The system will be available via subscription to guardian and payee service providers across the United States. EPRMS
One of the most interesting projects I've worked on, the Energy Price Risk Management System (EPRMS), is currently a standalone application written in Microsoft Access. The system manages price risk for petroleum, fertilizer, and grain for farmers and small cooperatives. The subject matter expert and I have taken this project through a complete iteration of the software life cycle including discovery, requirements gathering, analysis, database and application design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance. With bigger thoughts on the horizon for this project, a new cloud based version of the application is in discussion. I'm definitely excited for what the future holds for the EPRMS system. Zion Lutheran School
The school needed to upgrade from their existing enrollment program to a more complex program. They started looking at an available application in Microsoft Access, but wanted to explore developing a custom application. I researched the capabilities of their current application versus the schools business requirements and developed a custom data model as a platform for them to start developing custom forms and reports. Without the necessary financial resources to dedicate to a custom application, the decision was made to customize the current Microsoft Access application. The Microsoft application met most of the requirements and with minimal customization the application would provide the additional functionality they were seeking.
Travel Advisory Group
This particular project involved mapping the customer's existing database architecture for an upcoming conversion to a new software application. The detail oriented nature of discovery and analysis are always some of the most interesting aspects of my work. Once the current and target database architectures were mapped, recommendations were made for the customer regarding next steps of the conversion process.
Warner Ranch
A deviation from my normal course of work, QuickBooks and Excel spreadsheets are the focus for ongoing support of the Warner Ranch. I've been enjoying keeping the books for this business as well as troubleshooting payroll spreadsheets, and providing one-on-one training regarding all aspects of personal computer and application use, and software installation and updates.
Aims Community College
The best part of teaching is meeting the students and watching them learn and apply their newly acquired skills and information. As an adjunct professor at Aims Community College in Fort Lupton, my focus was on the computer information sciences classes which covered physical computer architecture and the use of software applications such as Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Although the subject matter I taught was a deviation from my professional focus of application and database design and development, the focus on teaching the subject matter thoroughly and effectively are invaluable skills I utilize in my work today.
